baking and making

For a family birthday afternoon tea I baked some biscuits: a new favourite and some new experiments. I was delighted all the flavours were enjoyed.
For the presentation of these home made goodies I created a plate stand.  Stylish, quirky and very space saving!

layer upon layer

The card class next week on 31st July is 'Elegant Ladies on Show'.  We will use stamps from two Crafty Individuals unmounted stamp plates. Our highlight colours are Schiaparelli pink and chocolate.
This week we used the Chocolate Baroque rubber stamp collection Home Sweet Home.  Both these brands have designs with fine lines that stamp out beautifully.  I love using them.

from pull up to pop up

Our second card class on July 24 is a pop-up called Country Houses.  The stamps come from the Chocolate Baroque collection Home Sweet Home so we have lots of coordinating images to create our pop up house-scape.

recycled pull-up birthday cake

The inspiration card for this week's card class was also the demonstration card. The pieces were passed around the table to illustrate the steps.

Now the class is done I thought I would assemble the pieces.  The cake is made from a lovely recycled cardstock with white rubon details.  This cardstock will also be the base for next week's pop-up card class 'Country Houses'
.

red + white or red + cream

Baker's twine started out in red and white.  Now it comes in lots of colour combinations but one we don't see is xxx + cream.  If you artwork doesn't have any white in it then the simple solution is to stain the twine with  some cream coloured ink from an ink pad, reinker or a marker.  As the twine doesn't have to be colour fast, as distinct from light fast the marker can be Tombow or Copic.

While remaking one of last year's Christmas tag designs last night I realised this was an example of when I had used this technique.

Kaisercraft has a new Christmas paper collection coming out soon and the stained red bakers twine will be a great embellishment to co-ordinate with it.

finishing touches

We had a great buzz in class on the last Technique Tuesday adding a twist to paper strips in the quilling class.  Although I had worried about it being too fiddly and taxing for some fingers frozen by time there was success all round.
I showed an inspiration card made from one of the Cuttlebug quilling kits.  Having got a few hints that the card "wasn't quite complete" I decided to add a row of pearls between the embossed lines on the bottom edge and tucked a tag with a birthday greeting under the flower bouquet.

The card base is cream pearl cardstock and the flowers are made from matching text weight pearl paper.  Pearl paper is an easy paper to use with quilling and looks good as a finished flower.

thursday evening technique tools

For Thursday 19 July 6.30 pm
The topic for the night will be using stencils, templates and masks. Bring a non-stick craft mat. Then if you have them, a template or two, paints, finger dabbers, glimmer sprays, Distress ink and applicator or possibly a stencil paint brush.  Cloth for cleaning you and tools!

The advantage of working with your own tools is you are already familiar with them and you have an opportunity to learn more about their use and care.

Time Team Tuesday

No Techniques Tuesday class today at Create On Ormond for me.  It is school holidays and time for the young artists to have the classroom.  Back next week with the first card class at 10.00 am.

Today I am participating in an archaeological dig down through the layers of paper, tools and dross on my cutting table.  Usually on a Tuesday at 6.00 pm on ABC there is an edition of the British TV program Time Team about digging up the past.  Having watched several seasons I know the drill but I shan't be putting things back the way I found them.  I am now moving into the museum phase just finding places to store everything with lots of labels.

I have come across some lovely half finished card ideas and I am reacquainting myself with some stamp designs.

birthdays, congratulations, weddings

.......  and Christmas now looming ..... Surely I can say that now that  the shortest day of the year has passed and June is done.

I will be conducting a short season of card making classes starting July 17.  Technique Tuesdays will recommence after the 6 card classes have been held. The card classes will be two hours on Tuesday mornings from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm.  Designs may include 3D, mechanical and construction aspects.  Some trimming, scoring, folding, colouring and gluing all leading to a bit of 'WOW' when they are taken out of the envelope when you give them away.

Here is the sample for the first class, a pull up design I created.  The papers are from the new October Afternoon Cakewalk collection.  Stars optional.
There will be tools to bring along so check for them as usual on this blog at 12.00pm Monday the day before class.

For class bookings and payments please call Marisa at Create On Ormond on 03 5222 1449 or email info@createonormond.com.
